Summer 2024 appearances of The Huddled Masses Orchestra (updated 6/19)

At the Rockland Sunday Stroll June 16th. That’s my empty chair on the left. The band had a great time. We will be back on July 21st. Jay Hanes, John Herzfeld, Mitch Kihn, Dan Wegner, Kirstie Brown, Margot Bridgett, Paul Greenstone, and John Koonz. (Tom Jamrog not pictured).

The best way to keep track of these is to find our FaceBook page, and hit “like.” You will be joining dozens of other young hipsters in the quest for the Fountain of Youth.

Tunelist, you say?

At the very bottom, for those who simply need to know!

Dates

June 22nd Solstice Celebration and Pride Parade in Rockland in conjunction with OUT Maine. 3 PM to 4:30 PM, during the Carnival section of events. At The Landing Place, 63 Park Street.

June 24th Women’s March, Monument Square, Portland starting around 0930. In the past, these have taken place in all seasons, this date was chosen since it is the anniversary of the Dobbs decision. We will be playing background music from 0930 to 1000 while people arrive. Then the speakers, (to be announced). We will play again from 10:30 to 11 while the audience sings along and chants. Tunes for this occasion will include: I Will Survive; I Fought The Law; We aren’t Going to Take It; This Joy That I Have; and Ain’t Going To Let Nobody Turn Me Around. The goal is to create community and to reinforce the idea that Women’s Rights are Human Rights.

July 21st 2 to 3:30 PM. Sunday Summer Stroll in Rockland. Theme? “Nautical”

July 28th Belfast (tentative) for the closing ceremony of the Ocean Challenge, somewhere near the Boat House in Belfast.

August 18th 2 to 3:30 PM. Sunday Summer Stroll in Rockland. Theme? “Art.”

August ____ The summer picnic of St. George’s Serbian Orthodox Church. In the past, the parish celebrates at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth. We are Maine’s only Serbian-style Brass Band, and as you might guess we can play an awful lot of Serbian party music. The Serbian community of Maine is a close-knit group and I think they limit tickets to parish members; but if you know any Serbian dance steps, you probably can show up and bust some moves.

September 21st Common Ground Country Fair, Unity Maine 4 to 6 PM. We will be “Roving” – under the open sky with no sound system ( we don’t need one) most likely near the sundial.

Tunelist. Subject to change from one week to the next…. and for the June 24th event we have a whole ‘nother list……

March of the Imperial Storm Troopers ( trio with Dan, Margot and Paul), Ederlezi, Gelem Gelem, Mesecina, Bubamara, Milo Mou Kokkino

(break)

YMCA, I will survive, Moliendo Cafe, Limbo, Hokey-Pokey, Those Were the Days, chicken dance, day-O, Ain’t going to let nobody turn me around, Down By The Riverside, Zemer Atik

Summer Picnic of Saint Demetrios Serbian Orthodox Church. The parish is based in Biddeford but the picnic is usually in south Portland.

Sometime in mid-August, exact Date TBA.

These blogs, and my books, and videos are written on the principle that any person embarking on something similar to what I do will gain more preparation than I first had, by reading them. I have fifteen years of USA nursing faculty background. Add to it fifteen more devoted to adult critical care. In Nepal, I started teaching critical care skills in 2011. I figure out what they need to know in a Nepali practice setting. Then I teach it in a culturally appropriate way so that the boots-on-the-ground people will use it. One theme of my work has been collective culture and how it manifests itself in anger. Because this was a problem I incorporated elements of "situational awareness" training from the beginning, in 2011.
